These free simple toddler lesson plans will help you to monitor early child development. Often in the daily rush of family life we miss the little things that are so important.

Over a period of several weeks or months you can look back and now see the areas they really do well and the areas they may need some more help.

Toddler lesson plan 1 (Playdough)

This lesson plan can also cover things such as making saltdough, coloring playdough

Preperation - Plastic surface that can be wiped. A good selection of playdough in various colors.

Equipment - Cutters, rollers, spoons, plastic knives, boards, other toys etc.

Learning -

  • Confidence trying new things

  • Concentration, Imagination

  • Handling tools safetly

  • Exploring textures, colors and smells

  • Communication

    This lesson plan can also cover things such as sand play, sand and water play, making sand castles

    Preperation - Large sand trays waist height, Sand pits, dustpan and brush (for tidying up)

    Equipment - Sand buckets, spades, sand diggers, plastic cups, sand moulds, empty washing up liquid bottles.

    Learning -

  • Confidence trying new activities

  • Concentration, Imagination

  • Handling tools sizes safetly

    Toddler lesson plan 4 (Water)


    This lesson plan can also cover things such as sand play, sand and water play, making sand castles



    Preperation -

    Large container which is accessible for your child. Plastic aprons and mops to clear up any spills.

    IMPORTANT Remember supervision at ALL times as toddlers can drown in an inch of water.



    Equipment - Spoons, cups, small containers, water wheels, plastic bottles (without lids), shells, plastic jugs, bubbles.

    Learning -

  • Good hand eye co-ordination

  • Extend vocabulary, learning new words, pouring and filling.

  • Using senses, asking why and how things happen.

  • Interested in new things

  • Lots of imaginative play
